TO ALL TEAMSTERS LOCAL 952 MEMBERS
COCA COLA BOTTLING COMPANY OF LOS ANGELES
ORANGE AND RANCHO CUCAMONGA
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
This is to inform you that San Diego Teamsters Local 683 is in very difficult contract negotiations with Coca Cola. Coca Cola is attempting to shift future health and welfare costs, up to twenty five percent of the premium onto the Teamsters. This would have a serious impact on the take home pay of the Teamsters, as well as an adverse impact upon Teamster members employed at Coca Cola throughout Southern California. In the event of a labor dispute, Local 683 may extend their picket lines to the distribution center where you work Joint Council of Teamsters No. 42 has sanctioned the Local 683 picket line.
Your contract continues to provide our members with certain protections to honor picket lines, despite repeated employer efforts to undermine those protections.
As you know, we have a contract in place with Coca Cola Bottling Company of Los Angeles. Our contract does not permit Local 952 to call a strike at this time and we have no intention of doing so. You, as individuals, however, have the right to express your solidarity with the members of Teamsters Local 683 when these primary picket lines are established. You may not participate in any picketing or handbilling activity at the Local 683 picket lines. You may, however, refuse to cross the Local 683 picket lines in support of their effort to attain a fair and equitable contract with Coca Cola.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters Brewery and Soft Drink Workers Conference is working to gain a fair contract in San Diego. If you have any questions regarding the rights and responsibilities of members encountering picket lines which you cannot answer, direct them to your Business Representative Frank Sevilla at (714) 740-6222. In the event a picket line is established, we will be conducting informational meetings. Thank you for your support.
